Be a Volunteer and Explore Thailand First Hand

Chakri Maha Prasat HallLife is all about caring for others. This is the reason why you draw so much more satisfaction when you do something for others than when you do it for yourself. Therefore, when you visit Thailand as a tourist, you will definitely enjoy your vacation since you would be visiting pretty places and seeing wonderful beaches and temples among other places of tourism. However, there is another kind of vacation that you would probably enjoy much more. This kind of vacation involves volunteer work in Thailand. /p>

When you take up volunteer opportunities in Thailand, it's bound to be a totally different kind of vacation. It would be most memorable and you would probably come back a changed man because doing volunteer work involves activities that would bring you close to the less privileged people of Thailand, those who stay in villages. You could change their lives totally and, while bringing relief into their lives, you would also undergo a silent transition in your own psyche.

There are several kinds of volunteer opportunities in Thailand. You could teach little children English in Surin or render valuable medical aid to the sick and ailing also in Surin's unspoiled areas. If you are inclined and qualified as a doctor or nurse or training to be one, you could help out in childcare activities in Surin or Maehongson. There is volunteer work that involves looking after elephants and gibbons or sea turtles in Phuket or Rayong and Surin. There are building activities for housing the homeless where you could involve yourself.

There are volunteer opportunities that involve community services such as in vegetable gardens and mini fish farms and these may interest you as well. These are all intensely and incredibly rewarding work that would make a difference in the quality of your vacation. While you are at work, you will enjoy getting to know the less fortunate people whose lives you could change. During the long weekends, you could explore the rich beauty of the Thailand's hinterland. You can enjoy climbing mountains, go trekking, mix with the gentle hill tribesmen or watch the wondrous sight of a sea of sunflowers near Maehongson.

Be a Volunteer Tourist in Thailand

To get the true taste of Thailand, you must join one of these excellent volunteer organizations that will not only open up Thailand for you but you will also be able to see how the real Thailand feels like from closer proximity. These volunteering organizations will offer you several kinds of options and you could select one of them depending on your inherent skills, qualifications and your bent of mind. Some of these fields are like protection of endangered wildlife such as the sea turtles, gibbons and wild elephants. /p>

You could take up the responsible task of teaching children English. If you are a medical intern or a doctor or a trained nurse or even a nurse in training you could be a volunteer caring for the sick and the orphaned. If you have a natural flair, you could help the less privileged villagers develop their local community resources.

There are other options also, such as participating in the renovation of a school. All these volunteering activities will be like great teachers for you and you will find these activities intensely rewarding and all the while the hinterland of Thailand will be available for you to explore.

These volunteer organizations will offer you opportunities depending on their requirement and your choice. Once you volunteer, you would be able to make a qualitative difference in the lives of the less privileged. While some of these opportunities are available throughout the year the others are offered during the western summer season. These volunteer programs will take you to Surin and Maehongson, Phuket or Rayong depending on the option that you exercise. So, a volunteer teacher will go to Surin and so will the medical volunteer. If you have opted for childcare, you would go to either Surin or Maehongson. Volunteers for animal care activities would go to Phuket or Rayong or Surin.

When you go to Thailand, as a volunteer teacher, you would be teaching English to Thailand's friendly children. Depending on the project, you choose as a volunteer teacher, you would be teaching in orphanages or primary schools and secondary schools. You could even volunteer to teach children who have special needs.

Nowadays, there are many -not for profit- organizations that are available on the web. Some of them offer great volunteer teaching programs in Thailand. These volunteering programs allow someone to gain valuable experience and explore Thai culture.

These organizations help underprivileged children and allow them to get educated. These children are normally deprived of proper education due to socio-economic or political reasons. One just has to join volunteer teaching programs and start teaching those friendly rural children.

These organizations allow one to teach in orphanages, primary schools and secondary schools. They also offer assignments on teaching children with special needs. Volunteering these teaching programs also doesn't have any special eligibility criteria. Someone planning an alternative holiday, traveling on a gap year, studying or a mature volunteer all are eligible.

Moreover, all international tourism companies operating in Thailand now recruit people having excellent written and spoken English.

An Insight on Types of Law Firms Operating in Thailand

An Insight on Types of Law Firms Operating in Thailand

There are a variety of law firms along with other organizations providing legal services in Thailand. It's significant for foreigners to understand these different types of law firms in Thailand in order to choose the appropriate legal service to accomplish his / her aims and to reduce the possible hazards of pursuing legal action in Thailand.

Below mentioned are the types of law firms operating in Thailand:

International Law Firms

There are several law firms in Thailand that are either indirectly or directly affiliated with some big multinational law firm. These firms normally help multinational corporations that have substantial overseas legal issues or provide support on transnational cases that involve one of their branches. These firms generally do not look out for new clients because they already have an existing clientele through their own offices located in various countries.

Local Law Firms

Local law firms are expert in handling local litigation and are more effective in managing cases that fall within the Thai jurisdiction. Most of the law firms operating in Thailand are local law firms. They generally serve Thai individuals and organizations. Consequently, these local law firms do not seek business from the foreigners. They generally don't have fluent English speaking staff. Although they may be quite skilled in Thai legal issues, they may be unfamiliar with the issues which are important to foreigners residing, working, or conducting business in Thailand.

Thai Law Firms with Foreign Partners or Supervisors

A number of Thai law firms have a foreign partner or associate who acts as a liaison between foreign customers and the local attorneys. These firms may be useful for foreigners who can only communicate in English. These organizations usually specialize in problems important to foreigners (both individuals and businesses) in Thailand.

Pseudo Law Firms

Apart from traditional law firms, there are several less costly options often known as "pseudo law firms" or "legal service providers". These firms don't normally fall under the category of "law firms" and are generally operated by Thais or foreigners who may not be lawyers.

Typically, pseudo law companies can be distinguished from conventional law firms by the fact that the person supervising the firm is a non-attorney. Nevertheless, the supervisors of such law firms can sometimes misrepresent themselves as certified lawyers. These organizations may also operate other businesses in addition to providing legal services, including virtual office leasing, business brokerage, mail order brides services, or website designing just to name a few. In certain extreme cases, pseudo law companies may have a staff of foreigners who are working illegally in Thailand.

Questions to Ask Before Choosing a Law Firm

Is the man that will represent you a licensed attorney?

If your principal contact is a non-Thai, is that man a licensed attorney in his home country?

Is the man you will be contacting fluent in both Thai and English?

Does the law firm have legal counsel as their principal business, or do they engage in other business deals that are unrelated to law including mail order bride services or business brokerage?

Does the lawyer make unreasonable and unsubstantiated claims? Or do they provide proof of their qualifications to serve you?

How long has the firm been established? (As a principle, a law firm with at least five years of experience is much more likely to remain in the business than other shorter establishments)

Advice For Gay Travel In Thailand

Thailand is a tropical country in southeast Asia, located southeast of Burma and bordering the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea. Thailand is known for its delicious food, culture, temples, and beaches, which makes it a desirable vacation spot. In addition, Thai people are incredibly friendly and accepting, which appeals to gay travelers, and it's not uncommon it be bombarded with smiles everywhere you go. Because of the monsoon season, the most desirable time to visit Thailand is between November and February when the weather is drier. The national currency is the baht (as of 2009 exchange rates, approximately 34 baht = $1).

Thai people are accepting of gay culture, largely due to the religion/philosophy that they practice, Buddhism, in which sexuality is considered a natural and enjoyable part of life. It is important to note that public displays of affection are considered inappropriate, and there are various other customs that should be kept in mind while visiting. For instance, the royal family and religion are revered and it is important to show respect and wear modest clothing when visiting palaces and temples and be careful photographing Buddha statues, as this is sometimes frowned upon. Other gestures such as touching another person's head or pointing at things with one's feet are unacceptable.

Top visitor destinations for gay tours in Thailand include Bangkok, Phuket, and Chiangmai. Bangkok is the capital of Thailand and a mix of modern and tradition. In the city, there are world class accommodations, fine food, and unparalleled nightlife. Silom is 1 of 3 gay neighborhoods, where a visitors will find gay-friendly clubs, massage parlors, go-go bars, cabaret clubs, and saunas. Three major tourist destinations, Bangkok, Pattaya, and Phuket, hold annual gay pride events. If nightlife isn't for you, Bangkok also houses historic temples and palaces immersed in tradition.

Phuket is an island province located in the Andaman Sea and is a famous tourist destination. This island is known for its beaches and natural beauty. Karon, Kamala, Kalim, and Patong beaches are top spots for leisure activities, including swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, and parasailing. A few places on Phuket contain hidden lagoons that can only be reached by canoe during certain tides. Phuket is also known for its gardens and seafood.

Chiangmai is the second largest city in Thailand, has a rich history, and contains more than 300 temples. The Buddhist monastery of Doi Suthep can be found looking down on the city, reached by a long mountain road. Outside of Chiangmai, there are numerous gardens (there are over 1000 varieties of orchids here), waterfalls, and hidden caves. Like Bangkok, Chiangmai has a thriving gay population, and nightlife is diverse, with go-go bars, clubs, and cabaret.

With its many exciting destinations and non-judgmental culture, Thailand is an ideal place to visit on a gay vacation. From beautiful panoramas, sandy beaches, and rich history and tradition, a visit to Thailand will be fulfilling and memorable. And experiencing a culture where the people actually put into practice their spiritual believes makes is even more memorable. While in Thailand make certain that you spend time with the Thai people; get to know a few of them at least a little bit. You will be greatly rewarded for your efforts.

Accelerating Thailand Stem Cell Therapies And Coordinating Research

We are only human, after all- and despite our scientists' best efforts towards a coordinated approach, that builds on or clarifies earlier studies without duplicating them, the research of technologies like stem cell transplants and adult stem cell cures can be very difficult to coordinate.

That is why organizations like the International Stem Cell Forum have sprung up - we look at their structure, purpose, and role in helping patients undergoing stem cell therapy in Thailand and elsewhere.

The International Stem Cell Forum is a collection of 21 funders of stem cell research worldwide. Some large member countries include The California Institute of Regenerative Medicine, the Danish Center for Stem Cell Research, Singapore's Biomedical Research Council, and Australia's National Health and Medical Research Council.

It basically aims to help stem cell therapy providers in Thailand, and worldwide, create potent therapies for a wide range of currently incurable human diseases, as well as gaining insights into human biology and the cell development process. Like any organization, the members have agreed to several key principles in their stem cell research.

All are opposed to human reproductive cloning, and are encouraged to explore somatic human adult stem cells as well as embryonic stem cells. The creation of embryonic stem cell lines should be limited in research, and ethical and intellectual property rights issues are also harmonized through the use of the forum.

One of the most important events since the founding of the ISCF in 2003 was a symposium held in June 2007, where more than 8-0 scientists around the world came to share their research into stem cell transplants, cord blood cells and how they can assist with injury recovery and human diseases. Collectively, the scientists found they had characterized 59 human embryonic stem cell lines, and through this, had determined a set of markers to help other scientists reproduce their work and move it forward.

This free-information attitude, disregarding the glory of stem cell discoveries, is what will most benefit research. These same scientists have recently been coordinating to achieve comprehensive, faster research results in areas like human induced pluripotent stem cells, which have many of the benefits of embryonic stem cells without much of the ethical debate.

The ethical committee of the International Stem Cell Forum was one of the first established by the stem cell research body. Human adult stem cell cures have moved ahead in leaps and bounds since the inception of the forum, with Thailand stem cell therapy for many previously incurable diseases now freely available. Therefore, ethics are no longer as large a part of the debate as they once were, yet the ISCF's focus on them assures policy makers that moral codes have been adhered to in stem cell research.

THE ISCF has developed a 50-country comparative study of stem cell regulations, as well as providing advice on cultural differences, ethical and legal issues relating to stem cell transplants.

Another of the ISCF's important activities from a scientific point of view is the Stem Cell Registry, which allows parties to find stem cell lines either by the laboratory that identified them, or by the name of the line. It aims to establish an international set of criteria and standards for characterizing stem cell lines

Academic Achievements - His Majesty The King Of Thailand

King´s Monument, Chiang MaiPHRA DABOS SCHOOL

His Majesty the King initiated the Phra Dabos project in 1976 to provide non-formal education for people who lack the means necessary to enter formal schools.

HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn explained in a 1995 interview that the concept of the Phra Dabos School is like that of the phra dabos, hermits in folktales.

According to the tales, anybody wishing to gain knowledge would go to the woods to find a phra dabos. If the hermit believed the person had enough determination, he would provide them with both practical and moral teachings.

His Majesty finances the project, which operates on a non-commercial basis.
KING'S SCHOLARSHIP

In 1965, the King's Scholarship programme, first launched during King Rama V's reign, was revived. In keeping with its original spirit, the scholarships are given to students with outstanding academic records for the pursuit of undergraduate studies in any field at foreign universities.

The scholarships are granted to those wishing to study mathematics, science, languages, social studies, vocational training and art. Each year, nine students are selected.

On average, the programme lasts five years, and there is no commitment to pay back the award. In 1971, the regulations were changed to allow students to choose to study at local universities as well.
THAI JUNIOR ENCYCLOPAEDIA

According to Princess Sirindhorn, the Princess Mother bought an encyclopaedia so that members of the Royal Family could find answers to their questions. His Majesty decided that he would like to have that kind of encyclopaedia produced in the Thai language. To that end, the Thai Junior Encyclopaedia was created.

The encyclopaedia is divided into three levels. The high level is for older children and adults seeking specialised knowledge on a variety of subjects. The other two are intermediate and elementary level.

His Majesty summarised the purpose of the encyclopaedia as follows: They are books that include all the knowledge humans have gathered since ancient times and processed for later generations. Normally this knowledge is learned at schools or educational institutions. But due to a lack of teachers and schools, there needs to be another source of knowledge that enables people to learn by themselves or from relatives and friends who know more.

ANANDA MAHIDOL SCHOLARSHIP

The Ananda Mahidol Foundation was established on April 3, 1959 using His Majesty's private funds. The name was chosen as a memorial to King Rama VIII, the King's elder brother.

Originally, the scholarships were given to students in medicine. Both His Majesty's father and brother had expressed their intention to promote that field in the country.

Later, the programme was expanded to also include the fields of science, agriculture, law, art, dentistry, veterinary science and engineering.

The scholarships enable recipients to study overseas on the condition that they return and work for the benefit of Thailand.

MAHAJANAKA

In 1996, the Golden Jubilee year of his reign, His Majesty released The Story of Mahajanaka. The book was an instant hit and has been reprinted several times.

The Story of Mahajanaka is based on a jataka, a Buddhist religious tale, about the practice of perseverance and the Bodhisattva King Mahajanaka, who brought progress and wealth to the city of Mithila.

Our customer service team is led by your personal beef biltong Liazon "" Eugene Cloete - if you ever have any problems - please email him or facebook him.

Our Story - The history of buy-snacks-online.com

In 2008 founder Eugene Cloete graduated from Elken Collage in Wonderboom South Africa with a degree in Hospitality. He went to work for a startup company "Ondangwa Rest Camp" He sold Holiday packages that led him into selling Holiday ownership . In Eugene"s sales job he approached a local Biltong company "" (The person"s name is Classified), and started talking with them about putting together a website to sell biltong on the internet. In preparation for the "big pitch" Eugene started researching the online beef biltong market. He checked with Google to see how many people searched for "beef biltong" on daily basis - in 2004 that number was 7,800. He took a look at all of the competitors in the marketplace, and put together a "kick ass" presentation for the beef biltong company. Being a young entrepreneur himself, Eugene thought he found a "golden ticket" to web riches for the biltong company... (so he thought)

"Presentation Time" -

Entering the meeting, he was excited - full of enthusiasm - he gave the best pitch of his young life (30 yrs old). He left the meeting feeling like he had just given the biltong company an insight to what they could do with the power of the internet and the amount of potential customers looking for "beef biltong". Think about it ... 7,800 potential customers on a daily basis - multiply that by 365 7,800 x 365 = 2,847,000. Almost 3,000,000 people per year in the Thailand searching for Beef Snacks. WOW! Now take 5% of that number and you get 142,350 potential customers in 1 year. Not bad right? If every customer made you 5.00 you would have a pretty solid online business.

"The Follow up" -

3 days later Eugene made the follow up call, still super excited that he was going to close the biggest deal of his young career. "Hi is "nameless" in?", said Eugene. The secretary replied, "No, he's not in can I take a message". Eugene left his message asking "nameless" about the proposal and to give him a call back. No call back..

The next day Eugene made the same call, only to receive the same secretary, with the same response -"No, he's not in can I take a message".
A week had gone by with 6 messages and no call back. Eugene had lost hope for this great biltong idea.

"The Real Truth" -

He was upset that he was ignored by "nameless" & the biltong company. He put in hours of work pulling in data, looking at competitors websites, buying their biltong and tasting their product line. He felt he could have at least gotten a phone call. Time went on, but Eugene thought about the biltong company and his internet biltong idea. Something inside kept telling him - someone's going to do it - why not you?

"So He Did " -

In 2009 after moving on from his first job, Eugene and Nittaya became business partners and opened South African Biltong Thailand and the first version of Buy-snacks-online.com was born on May 2010.

"Why Bulk" -

The name Bulk Biltong was chosen because Biltong lovers want lots of Biltong. 1 bag just won't do it. Why spend 143.00 on a bag, and then have to pay another 55.00 to get it shipped. It just didn't make sense. Eugene being a biltong lover himself thought if you bought your biltong in "bulk" you could save some cash - and - get your biltong stash.

Bulk Beef Biltong Today -

It looks like the idea panned out, 1,500 customers later & growing - giving our customers with best biltong and best customer service on the internet

- Enjoy -

A New You - Massage Vacations In Thailand

Thai massage is the first and only reason that many people visit Thailand - famous for its unique style of massage, the way it incorporates the posture of the recipient into the relaxing and healing process, the time-honored theories, and of course, the abundance of massage venues!

Ancient medicines recognize the enormous benefits of massage as a wellness treatment, and everyone that experiences one recognizes them also! Here we look at different types of Thai massage, and how to have the ultimate relaxation experience by combining your Thailand accommodation or Thai villa for rent, and Thai massages.

Foot massage is one of the quickest ways to be refreshed and relaxed, Thai massage style. The massage works on reflexology principles, where different spots on the feet correspond to different organs of the body.

You'll start off with a foot soak and moisturize, and then the massage begins. The foot that isn't being worked on is wrapped in a towel. Of course, if you take advantage of these in your Thailand villa for rent, you can maintain those lovely clean, scented, refreshed feet for quite a while afterwards!

You'll find traditional Thai full body massage facilities right next door to your Phuket villa or Thailand villa for rent, down the street from it, on the sand next to your Phuket beach villa, two streets away, as well as several blocks from your Thailand villa in any direction. It is one of the most sought after, and then fondly remembered, tourist activities in the entire country!

Thai traditional massage has you remain fully clothed and uses posture and stretching more than rubbing and oils. Hands, forearms, elbows knees and feet are all used. To get the most from the massage, breathe in while pressure or tension is applied, and exhale on the release.

A wonderful way to make the most of Thai massage's prevalence in tourist areas is to have a massage at your Thailand villa for rent. You can flop straight into bed or the pool afterwards, making the most of its relaxing properties. Villa Salika in the Rawai area of Phuket is a great choice - sleeping up to twelve people in bedrooms, this Phuket villa for rent has a private pool and sparkling outdoor sunken spa bath, with a massage pavilion adjacent.

Thai massage can be arranged on request, and there is no need to exert yourself and waste all that relaxation any more than absolutely necessary - there is a daily maid service at the Phuket villa, as well as a chauffered Honda CRV available for guests here. Super-peak customers live like royalty, with a full time Thai chef!

There are plenty of Thailand villas for rent where Thai massages are offered as a welcome, or a good-bye bonus. Baan Karon beach is one - this Phuket villa sleeps four people over two bedrooms in European style luxury, for those who like the comforts of home.

There are always staff around, including housekeeping, maintenance and security staff - just ask one of these friendly people how to arrange your free Thai massage when you stay for 7 days or more. This seventh-night stay in the luxury Phuket villa for rent is also marked by a free Thai barbeque - different and delicious!

A Miracle Healing In Thailand

Saphan Bhumibol at Dusk - BangkokWhen we think about Thailand, what comes to mind might be beaches, exotic places, sightseeing, and perhaps even Thai massage. But the miraculous healing event of this story is likely the most unusual aspect of Thailand.

All cultures in the world have some system of healing. Human beings have always had physical and emotional problems, be it injuries, sickness or any other trauma. Every civilization has always needed healing professions. Therapeutic healing techniques have included everything from faith healers to shamans to energy healers to massage therapists to modern doctors.

Even in western societies which have officially subscribed to modern medicine as the only healing system, there is a huge subculture of alternative approaches. Older traditional cultures have relied on such methods for 1000s of years since there were no other means available.

No healing system works 100 percent of the time (and that includes modern medicine), but they all have their uses and they work well enough to have survived the test of time throughout centuries of practical application. I know the true story of a miraculous and quite unusual healing here in Thailand.

It involves Jang, a girl from a southern province of Thailand who was 14 years old at the time. She developed a serious case of skin ulcerations that spread around her belly and back. Several visits to medical doctors and hospitals provided no relief and no cure. This type of disease is well known in the rural areas of Thailand and can be fatal in severe cases.

Jang exhausted all her options with modern medicine and she came close to dying. In desperation her parents took her to a local healer, an old man who was renowned for his healing powers. He took a look at her and proclaimed that he could cure her.

The old man started chewing on some plant substance which seemed to be Betel nuts and leaves. Betel nuts are chewed by many Asians for their stimulating effect. It looks pretty gruesome since it turns teeth and gums red and black and the people who chew it constantly spit out streams of blood red saliva mixed with betel.

The healer chewed for a while and then spit the blood red substance on her belly and back, and rubbed it in while blowing on it and uttering some kind of chant. There is no way of knowing what exactly he was doing, but after three days of these treatments, Jang totally recovered from the life threatening disease.

After 25 years the evidence of the disease is still visible as scars, but it was permanently cured. The old shaman accomplished a healing miracle while the doctors had given up on Jang. He asked for a modest payment of a couple of chickens and 100 baht which is about US$ 3.-

I am sure someone will think that this is a ludicrous story, but there is a similar story in the Bible (Mark 8,28) where Jesus healed a man's blindness by spitting in his eyes.

What makes this Thai healing case very authentic is that Jang is not a person I heard about from someone else, but she is my partner. I have been living with her for many years, and I have seen the scars.

The fact is that miraculous healings occur all over the world. While we might call them miracles, they are commonplace occurences for simple villagers all over the world. However the people practicing these methods see nothing miraculous in them. The old shaman in this southern Thai town had been healing people for most of his life, and for him it was just another day at work. He never thought of himself as a miracle man. The villagers can attest to many of his successes. He might not have been successful in every case and with everyone, but he did save the life of my partner Jang.

A Great Thailand Vacation takes Some Preparation

Thai boy diving at waterfall in Surat, ThailandTravelling always brings its own excitement and this excitement will be doubled when we are visiting a new place. Along with the excitement, we will also have a lot to do in terms of preparations for the trip and trip to Thailand is no exception. Thailand not only attracts tourists but it also attracts a lot of business visitors every year. You might be travelling with your family to Thailand for your vacation or you may be travelling alone; you may be visiting this country for business reasons or for holidays. At times, our trip to Thailand might combine both business and pleasure. Your preparations for the Thailand trip will depend a lot on the nature of your trip.

It always pays to learn about the background of your destination as part of the travel preparations. Thailand for instance has a lot to offer the modern day visitor and at the same time, it has managed to retain its cultural heritage. It has a number of temples that have been preserved from ancient times. Moreover, it is also a strong base for Buddhism and because of this Thailand also has a great spiritual flavor. When you know about the background of a particular place, you will be able to understand people from that place better. This will ensure a smooth trip to Thailand.

When you are travelling to Thailand, the first task in your list should be to get your travel documents ready. You can choose to have this part handled all by yourself or you can go through your local travel agent. Though handing this part will save you some money it involves a lot of time. On the other hand, when you get help from your local travel agent, your efforts will be minimized. Whether you are going to handle your travel papers by yourself or get help from your travel agent, you must find out the travel requirements from the tourism department directly so that your travel agent will not take you for a ride.

Start your travel preparations well in advance so that you can have your papers cleared and book your tickets well in advance. It is always beneficial to book your tickets well in advance so that you can get the cheapest deals for your flight. This will also give you enough freedom to tailor your trip according to your desire. On the other hand, if you book your tickets in the last moment, it is very likely that your travel plans have to be tailored according to the ticket availability.

Have every possible arrangement made before you leave your country. Have your hotels booked, find out how you will be moving around from one spot to the other locally, pick the places of interest that you would want to visit, etc. It is always cheaper to go for a sight seeing package rather than moving from one place to the other all by yourself. It is also safer to travel with a group when you are in a new country.

A Guide To The Markets Of Thailand

If you are looking for a bargain or two on your next trip to Thailand, a must-see is one of their many markets. Vast collections of stalls selling anything and everything, some have over 1000 stalls for you to browse through, these busy markets provide an unforgettable shopping experience.

Visiting the Thai markets is a fun way to get to see the real Thailand. Local people use the markets rather than supermarkets for their shopping needs, and its fun to watch them haggle with the sellers. Although tourists do flock to some of the larger markets, they are so vast that you will never feel that you are stuck in a tourist trap.

Chatuchak Market is by far the largest market that you will come across in Thailand, and it could well be the largest on earth. Absolutely vast and bustling with stalls selling food, clothing, electronics, traditional handicrafts, fresh local produce, and a lot more besides, the market was recently reorganised into shopping zones to help make it easier for you to find what you are looking for.

Many Thai shoppers prefer to do their shopping in the cool of the evening so there are many night markets around Thailand. One of the largest is the Chiang Mai Night Bazaar. It sells all kinds, looks fantastic lit up and bustling late into the evening, and it is also the place to head for some of the tastiest authentic street food in the country.

A fashion-lovers dream, Bangkok is home to the specialist Pratunam Market - a market dedicated solely to clothing. Most clothing on offer is brand new, although there are some retro and second hand stalls. Haggling is big here, especially if you are buying more than one item where a knockdown price is expected.

A very traditional kind of Thai Market is the famous, and often photographed Talaat Naam, or Floating Market. As the name suggests, this market does not take place on dry land! Instead sellers line up their boats along the old waterways and canals that have been used for trade and communications for hundreds of years.

If you are looking for a floating market to visit, by far the largest is Damnen Saduak. It gets very busy unless you head there first thing in the morning at around 6am. A more relaxed and traditional market is Tha Kha, which is visited by less tourists and has a more authentic feel.

If you are staying in Phuket, you will find that the biggest market available is the Talad Nad Chaofa Variety Market. It hosts around 1000 stalls and opens at weekends only from 4.30pm into the evening. As well as fresh local produce and traditional local delicacies, you will find electronics, clothing, bags, textiles - in short, everything.

A basic guide to Chiang Mai, Thailand.

The Beautiful Colors of Chiang Mai, ThailandOverview:

Set in the northern province of the same name, Chiang Mai is Thailands 5th most populous city and is known as the 'Rose of the North'. Surrounded by mountains and beautiful countryside, Chiang Mai is much greener and significantly quieter than the capital Bangkok and attracts over 5 million visitors each year.

Both the largest and most culturally significant city in Northern Thailand, Chiang Mai was at one time the capital of the ancient Lanna Kingdom. Meaning literally 'Kingdom of Million Rice Fields' The Kingdom of Lanna was centred in modern day Thailand between the 13th and 18th centuries and Chiang Mai was founded and built in 1296 AD to succeed Chiang Rai as its capital.

Until fairly recently, the 1920's, Chiang Mai was accessible only by elephant trek or an arduous river journey meaning that much of it's distinctive charm was kept intact.

In 2012 Chiang Mai was listed as one of TripAdvisor's 25 Best Destinations in the World, the only Thai location to make the list.

What to do/see:

Chiang Mai is a stunning city full of temples, gardens and museums so it's an ideal city for just walking around and seeing what you come across. The city centre known as the historical centre is still surrounded by a moat and some sections of the old city wall still remain.

With over 300 Buddhist Temples ('Wat' in Thai) there are far to many to mention here but perhaps the most famous is Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep which dates back to 1383 and is depicted in the cities emblem. Of the more central temples Wat Phra Singh in the historical centre is perhaps the most well known and is well worth a visit.

If you're looking to buy local crafts Ratchadamneon Rd hosts the main night street market every Sunday.

Chiang Mai also offers courses on a wide range of activities and courses from Thai cooking to Muay Thai to Buddhism.

Thai massages are of course very popular and there is an abundance of spa's throughout the city including one run by the Womens Correctional Institute aimed at rehabilitating offenders back into the community by giving them jobs and teaching them new skills.

Cuisine:

Much like Bangkok Chiang Mai offers a large range of food but with some off its own specialities. Khao soi is a northern Thai dish consisting of dry yellow wheat noodles on top of a curry broth, highly recommended.

If you're hankering for some home comforts Chiang Mai boosts a wide range of international restaurants offering dishes from round the world.

Climate:

As you would expect for northern Thailand, Chiang Mai has a tropical wet dry climate more temperate than the south. The weather is warm to hot year round normally peaking March to June before the wet season comes (July to Oct) and the cool season Nov to Feb.

Tips:

Citizens of most countries can enter Thailand by air without a visa for a visit of up to 30 days, land crossings for up to 15.

To arrange longer stays, travel, tours or to book accommodation use a cheap calls to Thailand service to save yourself money prior to your Journey.

Chiang Mai International Airport handles both domestic and International flights. Various airlines run multiple daily flights to and from Bangkok including budget airline Air Asia.
